Houston Zoo

Houston Zoo is the second most visited zoo in the United States with about 2.1 million visitors each year. There are 900 different species of over 6,000 animals. The zoo came together in 1922 on two acres of land. Over the years it has grown to become our beautiful 55-acre park that we now know as the Houston Zoo. We hope to inspire our guests to take action in saving the wildlife.

Animals

Houston Zoo is the perfect place to see Asian Elephants, Chilean Flamingos, and African Lions all in one place without having to leave Houston. Stop by the "Plan Your day" kiosk to see what special animal activities will take place while you're at the zoo. You'll have the opportunity to pet goats, feed giraffes, bird watch, and so much more. We work hard to ensure safety for our guests, staff, and the animals in our care.

Dining & Shopping

We make sure to have a variety of food options for our guests. Wherever you are in the Houston Zoo, you're never too far from a snack. There are many cafes, food trucks, kiosks, and carts located around the area with a wide range of cuisines, such as salads, burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, beverages, fruit, and more. The themed food trucks provide sweet and savory foods that will make your visit all the more better. Be sure to stop by the gift shop for items that will help you remember the wonderful memories made at Houston Zoo.

Reviews

My daughter and I took my granddaughter and spend the day wondering and gawking at the fabulous natural habitats and animals. It is a perfect setting for shade which is much needed in Houston. There are many places to stop and enjoy views as well as places for children to play and pet animals. My granddaughters favorite was the goats where she proceeded to hug all of them. We also ate at the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was and how reasonably prices. Would advise going as early as possible due to large crowds and high heat and humidity!
Natural habitats, very humane. Lori H, Trip Advisor.
My family & I went on the zoo's free Tuesday, which we left a donation as it would've normally cost $80 for the 4 of us to attend. I haven't been to this zoo in around 15 years, so it was nice to go again! I was pleasantly surprised by the sizes of the large mammals enclosures. It seemed to give them enough space to be alone or in public view. The zoo was well maintained & clean.
Fun day! Love2Wander, Trip Advisor.
Enjoy the diversity of the animals in a comfortable setting. We didnt have our grand kids with us but we kept imagining things through their eyes. Not hard to do here. Surrounded by a beautiful park right in the city. Loved it!
Wonderful place. Great exhibit of animals. Frank H, Trip Advisor.
